Description

"Patchwork", the 3rd string quartet by Barbara Heller (Schott ED 20775), is now also available in a version for string orchestra. "Patchwork" is fun with its cheerful, airy and light character. Playfully flowing figures, often in pizzicato, alternate with "standing sound surfaces". Conceived as a tritone study by Heller, the sound material consisted entirely of whole-tone ratios. The unusual timbre of the tritone therefore requires precise intonation. The interpretation is left free at the tempo: "Patchwork" can be played statically at a moderate tempo, but also quickly and witty "scurry past".
