Ross Edwards was captivated by a persistent and strikingly melodic birdcall he heard, and derived from it the scale which underlies this work. With a fast tempo and dance-like character, Binyang has, at times, a jazz or blues sound. Binyang means 'bird' in the now defunct Sydney Aboriginal language.
