Description
Paul Hindemith's artistic development was fundamentally determined by his Frankfurt environment in the years between 1917 and 1923. The city was at that time the center of a diverse reception of pre-war expressionism, which led among other things at the Frankfurt stages to the emergence of the so-called "Frankfurt Expressionism". Based on Hindemith's position in this cultural network, connections between the genesis and reception conditions of his compositions and the Frankfurt field of ideas are revealed and analyzed. Hindemith's examination of expressionism, as reflected in his settings of Expressionist texts, is experiencing a new classification.
